At some point a PO put a 2F and 4 speed tranmission in my 72. The reverse light have never worked since I bought it. I see two wires (electric nipples....yeah i just wanted to say that) hanging from the transmission. I assume those are for the reverse lights. Am I correct? If so can i rig the reverse lights up to work?

Happy Turkey Day all!

Randy

Yes,those wires come from the back up switch. You probably had 3 on the tree to begin with.1 will go to the fuse block the other to the lights.Happy Turkey

Yep I just did this last night on mine. I bypassed my old backup lights for a large set of utility lights. Now I can blind the driver behind me and see really well in the woods. I had the same thing on mine. Mine was switched to standard vs 3 on the tree as well. i hooked one side to the fuse box and ran the other to the utility lights. Works like a charm. Good luck Randy. Seems you and I are in the same step on our pigs.

Here is a pic. I am a visual learner. So maybe just hook these up to the two wires that are hanging around my steering column? How about the greasy tranny? :grinpimp:

You and me both, brotha. I think your on the right track, based on what I've seen posted up here. According to John, yeah, the wires should be somewhere around your steering wheel. According to my Haynes...there are 2 red/light blue wires coming off of the back of the switch on the transmission... One of them goes direct to the reverse lights and the trailer light socket... The other one goes to a point in the harness(prolly under dash) where there is a splice w/ the red light blue wire tying to a (OR 2)yellow wire(s)...This circuit is fed by a 5A fuse on the fuse block(looks like the dash gauge light circuit) It would not surprise me to find that the wire going to your reverse lights was taped up next to the wire(s) that feed the circuit(voltage going to the switch) allowing for a single 2 wire connection between the reverse light switch and the feeder wires/output wiers Hope that made sense Hope that helps!!!

The old reverse switch(3 on the tree)is mounted on the steering column mount on the fire wall,on the engine side.Might be easier to just run some new wire.1 to the 5 amp on the fuse block and the other to the lights.Heres a pic of the reverse switch(column shift)

Let's revive this... I am tired of messing with my engine and it is too cold right now! Here is a picture of another wire (green connector) that is hanging off the top of my transmission....What does it need to hook up to? I cannot seem to find any wires around my steering column that fit the description you are all giving me. I did find where the RB wire from the transmission hooks up in the back of the rig. (pic 2).

I looked on the firewall engine side for the old connector too Sawtooth...did not see anything? Maybe the PO took it off?

I did crawl under and test the two RB wires with the "light up screwdriver" and they did not create light.....just adding that.....I suppose they wouldn't since they are not tied to the fuse box to get power tho:whoops:
