I used .25" fuel line as well, and on top I used a crank-case vent filter (ala K&N style) like the ricers put on their motors. Lil' bit o' Bling under the hood, albeit more expensive than a fuel type filter.

I actually re-used the stock breather hanger in it's original location too, just pulled out the old greasy hose, fed in the new one, gave enough slack for a loop, and ran the extension up to the fuse panel- where I attached the crank-case vent filter.

ahhhh DOc you the man, crank-case vent......that's what i was looking for!

R2,

Congrats on the 500th post! The water comment is to say that if you're regularly traversing deep water or worse get stuck in a mudhole for a prolonged soaking then you should be repacking things FAR more often than the rest of us. I do not, so my comment implied that with no water contamination my Amsoil synthetic grease will provide adequate lubrication in there for a long time now that it no longer will deal with oil contamination either thanks to the mod. Obviously, you should tailor the maintenance of your vehicle to its usage.

Thanks! I didn't even notice.

Roger that. I just hoped the mod. would help eliminate the need to drain and fill everytime you dunk the axles. I would probably check it regardless the first few times out... easy enough to pull the plug for a second or two to see if it's milky.

Thanks,

Okay, just throwing a thought out, no argument intended, but I think that the K&N style crankcase filters I've seen are open filter media. In other words the filters I've seen are not encased or enclosed within the plastic protective case. They are just an open 3/4 inch filter with caps and tubes at each end. If, again if, that is the case, then that particular style is probably not the way to go as the open filter media will absorb water during washings, storms, etc. and then via suction that moisture will get into the diff possibly causing problems with rust and separation of greases etc. If someone knows of one of those K&N style filters that IS protected by plastic casing, please let me know. Otherwise, I think the fuel filter design is definitely better.
Another thought is that the fuel filter can be mounted with the open end down as opposed to open end up. This would prevent any water infiltration. Not that much water would work its way into a 1/4 inch opening, but, whatever amount that would be, would be avoided. As long as the curve in the 1/4 inch fuel line is not too tight, I would think there would be enough suction to get air through the extra fuel line and the upside down fuel filter. Any thoughts? Thanks as always.

all valid points turbo. I'll take that into consideration. This weekend the TLC will get some TLC.

Agree.
