replacing axles & bearings on rear diff!

I've figured why the rear axles had play, worn out axles. I removed the bearings and will be re-installing tomorrow. How do I get all or most metal shavings out of the housing while the carrier is still there? I've got lots of rags to somewhat wipe clean. Any tricks do I need to know?

You have 7 trucks in your signature. Which one are we dealing with? Full floater or semi floater?

Are you doing wheel bearings or differential bearings (carrier/pinion).

89bj75 getting the 82bj6o implants. Semi-floater. Axle bearings and seals along with the axle implants if good.

Only the short axle will fit, the long one is too long. 60 series has a wider wheel base, I knew that No scoring on axle so should be good to go. Good thing I had a new spare long axle in my collection of parts
