Will my existing old 8274 solenoids/wiring/etc still work with the Warn 6hp XP motor?

Yes, although "in" and "out" were reversed on the wired remote until I reversed the cables to the F1 and F2 terminals on the new motor.

I just bought an Albright contactor for mine, just need to figure out where to put it now. Doesn't look like it will fit under the solenoid pack cover because the remote cable connector inside the cover is in the way.

Which contactor did you buy? Warn's albright contactor is pn 34971 at about $200.

From what I read, the Warn contacter is made by Albright exclusively for Warn, is a triple pole and therefore will stand more abuse than the DC88 that is a twin pole.

Thanks, Dan

After a lot of reading on Pirate and some Land Rover sites, I found out that the Warn P/N you mentioned is for their industrial winches that see almost constant service. Yes, the three poles would be an extra margin of safety, but the two-pole Albrights are designed to fail in the open position so your winch is not supposed to be able to run away. At any rate, I decided that the Albright P/N 90-14452 which is the one they make for Superwinch would be sufficient for my needs at half the cost of the Warn industrial. Thanks to Pinhead for pointing me to Summit Racing, where you can buy them for $97.

Thats some good info there! I spent $75 for a pair of Warn solenoids a few months ago. I could buy the Albright 90-14452 and sell all 4 solenoids and probably come out ahead! Definitely will go to the Albright if another solenoid fails. Thanks!

:beer:Great info guys and much app. from a non computer man, just got back from a windrock Tenn. trip and my warn went south at a bad time. need some parts too. I did see a new 12000e spit its guts and gears trying to extract a 80 series from the rail trail. not a good sight when it had just lost a front and rear chromemoly axels:beer:

Recent 8274 Motor Replacement Search

I have been doing the ebay and Amazon 8274 motor search for about two weeks now. The original idea was to go as beefy as @ $100 could take me. I found out that if you want the WARN 6.5 HP 9.5xp motor on Amazon you will be paying @ $244 shipped with super saver shipping. Amazon.com: WARN 68608 Winch Motor: Automotive I decided to lower my expectations and settled on the DB Electrical Double Roller Bearing Motor for $103... Before I bought the motor I called DB and found out that the motor I had found was a 6HP Motor (made in china) but, nontheless a 6HP motor.
I pulled the trigger on the 6HP Motor as described above. When it arrived, I bench tested it. Funny smell was coming to my attention. I pulled the armature from the motor and found that the armature was rubbing the field coils on one side. Called DB the next day and Josh immediately sent me a return rma for my motor. I guess I should have bought two... Not a huge problem but, I was hoping to use my new 6HP motor with my new cheesy china made wireless remotes. I sent it off yesterday. I will post my findings when I find them...:hhmm:

I am not trashing DB in the above post. FYI... When I received the winch motor package the outer box looked ok. When I opened the outer box I found a sea of popcorn packaging material. Next I dug the inner box out that contained the motor. I pulled the box out to find that evidently the box had bounced hard enough to punch the splined shaft cleanly through one side of the box. I think the FedEx guys may have been bouncing the box a little too hard.
I think the plastic piece that holds the armature centered was damaged when the box was mistreated by the shipping company.

I ran a DB Electrical motor in mine right before I upgraded to the Warn 9.5XP motor. The DB lasted less than one season before the copper wore off of the armature (see post #19 in this thread):
