I just replaced the motor/mechanism this weekend and took some pictures so it’s less intimidating for folks.

First, I disconnected the battery negative terminal because I wasn’t sure what I’d find as far as air bags, but probably not necessary.

Remove the seatbelt (14mm)

Pull down the liftgate trim. Start with the top middle and then the right side. You can try to fish a trim tool under there, but I just grabbed it and pulled.

Pry off the small trim covering the rod end bracket, and remove the bolt. You’ll need an open end wrench (12mm IIRC).

install the new ball end from the kit.

Remove the D pillar panel. Here you can use a trim tool. You want to start at the rear top to get it out from the rubber seal. Once you have started popping it out, work your way around to the window and down. The bottom was the hardest to get free from the lower trim.

Install the new mechanism and electrical connector.

Reinstall the trim panel. Make sure you put the string through the opening in the panel, and pull the arm through the slot after the trim is fully seated. Make you you get the trim fully into the rubber seal.

Install the trim piece. Press the new rod on the arm and the ball mount.

And reattach the seat belt.

Reconnect the battery, close the liftgate, make sure the liftgate enable dash button is in the right spot, and use your remote or dash button to cycle the door.

Tell your wife so she can appreciate you ;).
