Replace Spindle???

The birf is definitely toast.once any kind of groove is worn the heat treat is gone and it will go boom, probably taking out another spindle.

:eek: :bang: That's not what I wanted to hear!
What you say makes sense.. in a way, but I can't really see it since that portion of the birf-Shaft does not really rub or twist against anything.. right? Otherwise it would have a bearing ?
As far as I can tell/see/imagine.. It floats on the inside of the spindle and is not supposed to touch the spindle inside wall
In my case the spindle deformed itself so bad with the bearing melting on the outside of it, that its deformation made its inside diameter narrower and made it rub against the birf-shaft, but the repaired spindle does not rub against it any more, and if I put a new spindle in; the new spindle will not rub against it either???:confused:
Not trying to argue the point with you.. Just trying to wrap my mind around it to decide if I drop another $300 into a new birf + all the other stuff I have to replace...
Thanks for the advice!

Ya nothing rides on that part of the shaft. When torsional load is placed on the axle from normal wheeling, thats where it will fail.I wouldn't blame you for trying to get by considering what 80 series axle parts cost, but if you have to worry about it everytime you go wheeling..not with it IMO . Great story by the way,my wife would have been less than understanding lol
