The rims on my FJ80 is looking very "worn". I spent quite a bit of time getting the road grime and brake dust off it. It seemed that it was welded on there. However, after quite a bit of chemical wash (ammonia and muriatic acid) and good old wet sanding, I got most of it off.
Then scuffed it up pretty well and then applied self-etching primer, paint, and several coats of clear coat. I put the primer on fairly thick and wet-sanded it.
Have a look and see what you think. I had tires put on and it came out quite well.
