removing tray from fj45

just wondering how to take tray off back to get to rust and repaint

If that's the case then the tray should unbolt. Unless the builder welded it in place to the frame.

Well... my Canadian bed came off with 10 bolts. More accurately, after I drilled through the heads to weaken them and used an air chisel to snap them off. I would imagine the tray would be mounted to the same brackets off the frame. Three each side rearward of the axle and two in front.

The wet spots (penetrating oil) are from trying to loosen the bolts up.

I was able to unbolt mine from from the factory mounts. However my old 40 had the tub welded to the frame. Depends on how it was constructed. Take some pics and post them up.
