I plan on removing the cats on my 91 fj80 and have noticed they are one piece with the down pipe. I could just cut the cat off the factory down pipe and work from there. Would a 1FZ down pipe with out the cat bolt directly to the 3FE exhaust manifold? This would seem to make things a little easier.

'94 FJZ80 cat removal..........

I removed the cat from my '94 to eliminate the heat build up on PS floorboard. I now have loud exhaust about 3K rpm's. I would like to improve/ reduce the whinny sound and still keep up with traffic (or pull a boat). Any ideas (beside not putting the cat back on)?

You could go with a high flowing cat. I'm into Cobra Mustangs and cats are the first thing to rip off, except for guys that have to pass emissions tests (dang hippie states). There are some very good flowing cats out there. That should quiet you down some without robbing your power. I would immagine that Summit and Jegs would both have a selection of high flow cats.

Go with magnaflow cats! my brother in law runs them and they make a big difference.

There's quite a few posts on here about FJ80 owners simply gutting their cats. Pull off the cat, use a rigid piece of rod, rebar, etc to bash the guts out of it. It still looks OEM, you don't have to have any pipes fabbed, and the only cost is new gaskets. I plan to desmog, so it's probably the approach I will take.

My plan is to rip the guts out of my cats too!!

I want to do my part for Earth Day.

Do you just get two of the same cats and run them in series on the 1FZ?
