Maaaaaaaaan, I just want a remote start system, but it doesn't seem like I have good options! I have one in my land cruiser, but it was a professionally installed viper system. I don't drive the 4runner nearly as much so I'm not really wanting to spend $2000 on a remote start/alarm system like I did on the LC so I started looking into the DIY/plug and play kits that I've seen available for the 4runners.
Unless I'm wrong, it seems POINTLESS to me to get one of the systems that integrates with the OEM fob, ESPECIALLY if it's one of the ones that doesn't have the door shutoff bypass. The range on the fob seems terrible so I don't see a point in starting it 10 steps away and then having it shut off on me anyway when I get in.
So then I start looking into options with better fobs, but the better fobs seem lame in that they come with only 1 button for the remote start and you can't even lock/unlock with them. Plus I'd prefer a screen so I could actually confirm it's started/locked/unlocked.
So THEN I started looking into ones that have cell modules so I could control it from an app, but the 2 issues I've seen there is, they all seem to use the same crappy apps and it looks like you have to mount the cell module on the dash because there's no external antenna.
I've looked at start-x, accessorides, 12 volt solutions, and N2 Designs. Am I missing something or is this all correct and the only way to get a system that seems to function properly is to get a professionally installed viper or compustar or something
