I'm in dire need of a remanufactured starter for my 1986 BJ70 24V truck. Right now I have to give it a love tap once in a while to get her going, and yesterday it was in pouring rain.

This is my daily driver so i'd like to get another starter and swap in on the weekend or something, any help will be greatly appreciated.

cheers
Eric

I bet its just the plunger/solenoid contacts. Theyre probably $40 from Toyota. Very common problem. Yank it off yourself and replace the contacts. Sand up any rough spots on plunger with fine emory cloth. While your at it check out the rest of the starter (armature, brushes etc). YOur looking at few bucks I bet for a "reman" if you can find one you trust.

There is a shop in N Van called Aers (sp?) Electric I think - excellent work, excellent prices for this job.

She's coming off tonight, so i'll have a look at it, chances are it needs complete overhaul, 280,000 on the truck, the orginal starter doesn't ow me anything.
