So I've been searching and thinking about what I should do for my trail gear sas as far as frame/steering box reinforcement. I won't be wheeling on rocks, but trails and mud are what is going to be wheeled with my '88 pickup with 22re. Can I just install the trail gear kit and call it good? Or do I need to weld something from the front spring hanger along the frame rails? And I will NOT be moving my steering box forward, so do I still need to plate the frame where the steering box mounts, or should I be ok? Any opinions are appreciated thank you!

Why SAS if not rock crawling? If you're just trail ridding and mud I wouldn't bother.

No need to reinforce if you aren't doing anything crazy. Just weld on the hanger and go.

Thanks jynx for the help. I was thinking I probably wouldn't need to reinforce anything since I'm not rock crawling. But I also thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Oh and to the other guy that commented, you don't have to rock crawl to do an sas. I just got tired of fixing my ifs all the time. 2 sets of cvs, ball joints and tie rods, every other time I went out. And the trails my buddies and I wheel require a bit of flex to make it to where I don't have to drive nearly as hard.

Sounds to me you need a locker and a little less skinny pedal. You asked for opinions and I gave you mine.
Also. If the sad kit comes w/ the power steering box frame reinforcement plate thing, why don't you think you need to install it?? It comes w/ it for a reason.

Yes I did ask for opinions, and I appreciate yours. I wasn't trying to seem like an A-Hole or anything. And I've always been fairly easy on the skinny pedal. The past couple years I've just been getting into more difficult trails. I did have a spool locker in the rear, but it was broken due to me being dumb and going wheeling without anyone else, and got myself into a really dumb pinch, and I had to get the gas pretty hard. The locker broke while I was getting out of the hole I was in. Oh, and I had no idea that the trail gear kit came with the reinforcement kit for the steering box. I must have overlooked it, and I don't know how lol because I've looked the kit over about a million times.

I see said the blind man......
Once you SAS because you're progressing. I'll give it maybe 2 years before you're on the rocks. :)
If you're committing to the SAS you may as well do it right the first time. Then just start the progression again.

I've been wanting to get into the rocks a little bit. But I don't know of anywhere around where I live that has any lol. But I'm gonna look around. And I completely agree with doing it right the first time. if you have any more advice or opinions feel free to chime in ok. I'm here to get advice and learn, I'm no pro by any means haha. And I'm going to be ordering the sas kit probably next week. I'm going to have about 4000 to play with for now. But I will surely have more coin when the time comes for more mods. Anything u guys think would be a good investment let me know.

Don't put the reinforcement plate in until you've cycled the suspension. There is a good chance the tie rod will hit the drag link, and cutting those plates off is a PITA!
