Funny thing happened. I realize this is blasphemy but my 80 has been sitting for awhile. She has not really been neglected, just parked over to the side for a couple months with only the occasional start and run. I have a new little boy and he has taken precedence. .
I decided to get the girl running the other day and due to a dead battery she decided to throw a code 31 for the airbag.
I followed the FSM to find and clear the code, but after too many tries to count she would not clear. I tried multiple different ground points on the frame, engine, bolt heads and battery. Nothing would ground well enough for the clear sequence to work. Don't ask me why.
Frustrated I sat on the ground beside her in the grass. And like an apple in the head of Newton, it hit me. GROUND! So what did I do? I walked into my shop grabbed a roll of Black Iron wire I use for Parkerizing and Bluing guns and walked out to the rig. I spooled off a bit and put one end close to the end of the SST wires and the other end stuck in the GROUND.
Ran the sequence again and it took the first time. Code Cleared.
See this North Carolina Education worked out after all.
I got a good chuckle out of this and thought I would share. CHEERS!
