August 20-21: Red Cone/Radical Hill. I will be the trip leader and the meet/leave times are per the club calendar page. Camping is optional. If not camping, you can drive out via Webster Pass (if open), Radical Hill (if open), or Montezuma. I plan to drive over Red Cone on Saturday and camp north of Webster Pass, then do Radical Hill (if open) on Sunday and drive out through the Swan River drainage to Breckenridge and eat at the brewpub before driving back to COS. Camping is below treeline. Radical Hill opens late in the season because of a late-melting snowdrift on one of the switchbacks, so we can drive out on a different road if needed. There are several options and lots of trails available. I will get a trail update from the USFS later this week to see if any trails are not yet open and post the info. Another option is to come back over Georgia Pass.

That's one of the most amazing stories I have ever heard. Awesome. I had to read the whole thread, took ferever -- especially with my fourth grade reading level :hillbilly: How cool is that? without any vandalism at all to boot.

That Bushduck's site says Red cone is open, as well as Montezuma, so looks like I'm still in. Got my locker installed tonight for that extra little insurance.

Bushduck's says Radical Hill is open, which leads to Swan River trails, which are in dangerous shape. We can check out the area and come out through St. John's if need be. This area has a lot of territory above treeline. There is another road that goes from the Montezuma area to the valley west of Argentine Pass that I scoped from the top of Argentine. So, there will be plenty of areas to explore.

Luke, what rig are you going to drive?

Years ago I saw a -40 that tried to cross that drift and ended up teetering on the edge after sliding off of it. It looked like you could send it down the mountain with a touch of a finger. Owner was nowhere to be found, otherwise we would have winched it up the bank.

Anyone else planning on going? Trying to decide on a meet/leave time. I don't want to slow you down vic, so justin and i will probably leave woodland and head through deckers to 285. What is a good meet time? 10:00? 11:00?

Our trip calendar page calls for meet/leave time of 7:00/7:30 AM. I will follow that because it is the club calendar. One never knows who may show up based on their reading the calendar page. I'll post up later this week to tell you the general area of where we will be camping in case I don't see you on the trail. Vic

It's pretty difficult to find anyone out there. IF you had a ham radio... that would help :) i'm not bringing a CB, i'm just done with those. Maybe we'll have cell phone reception.

I am planning to attend but am thinking I might drop off the wife and baby at the in-laws in Morrison and come up 285 that way. We should pick a place such as Bailey or Grant and a goal time to meet and I can plan drive time from that. Also my co-worker Ben wants to join in but didn't want to drive up from the Springs alone so if anyone from town is going let me know. Website says meeting local is west? Does that mean you plan to go up 67? My lure to get Ben to go is the huge Scout junkyard in Grant.

I am planning on going as well, but I an going to get up to grant earlie so I can pick up some parts for my scout at the international graveyard in Grant. So I need to know the time you all are planning to get the the trail head and where it is so I can get to there with enough time to do my shopping.

We are going to leave the Western station in Woodland Park at 7:30. There are 3 rigs that I know of that will be there, possibly another one mentioned in the thread, and maybe more if people read the trip calendar and don't post here. That is 4 rigs that I know of. We are going to drive from W.P. to Deckers, then to Pine Junction, then left on 285 to Bailey. We are going to stop at the gas station/mart in Bailey (Conoco? not sure but it is obvious) for awhile to gas up, buy stuff, etc. We will then go to the turnoff on 285, stop in plain sight of the highway, and air down. After that, it's to the trail head. I don't know exactly how much time it will take to get from W.P. to the turnoff or the trail head, but it won't take until 11:00. I guess we will be to the turnoff on 285 around 9-9:15 AM. We will hang around there for a little while while we air down, then drive to the trail head and see who might be there.

I assume we will camp after we drive over Red Cone and down to Webster Pass, then turn right on the Webster Pass road and go down to the valley. We will try to find a large camp area in the valley. This is after we pass the turnoff on the left that leads to Radical Hill.

It sounds like there will probably be two groups: one leaving early and the other one meeting at the trail head at 10:30 - 11:00. Maybe we will meet up on the trail; if not, at the campsite.

I was planning to meet up with ben in grant and be at the turnoff around 10:15 but can try to move that up by an hour if you need me to. I'd much rather do red cone as a whole group than alone and neither of us are planning to camp but will have to drive back out at the endofthe day. Call me at 719-371-1983 when you get to Bailey and I'll let you know where I'm at. Thanks! Looking forward to getting back into the group trailrides after a busy spring and summer!

Going the way this club works, no one will be ready to leave at 7:30. Probably closer to 8. The drive to bailey is downhill and winding, then steep uphill and winding. You can get there in an hour and a half, but not in an fj40 loaded with camping gear. Then from there to the turn off from 285 maybe another 30 min. I'm thinking 10:15~10:30 ish. I dunno, that's why i'm going alone, i don't have rockets on my ride. Hope to see everyone there, but i'm not going to put myself on a regimented schedule. That just don't sound like fun. What's the hurry?
