Wife called and said that a rock broke her windshield. Hoping to avoid a nightmare situation with a windshield replacement.
Do Lexus dealerships offer windshield replacement/installation, or do they use an outside vendor?
Also is it recommended to replace everything to avoid issue?
Any input will be appreciated.
Most dealers have an outside vendor that they use rather than needing that specialized skill in house. You could call the dealer and ask them who they use and they *might* tell you.
I had our 200 windshield replaced at the shop most of the local dealers use here in Chattanooga, and they did a good job. no leaks, and they used OEM gasket with aftermarket glass at my request. (OEM glass is way more expensive and harder to get).
You'll know a good glass shop based on the cars in front waiting work. The one I used had several new and nearly new luxury cars waiting glass from the local dealers. Dealers will recognize poor quality work and hear back if it leaks etc, so they won't use a bad shop for long.
Also make sure they replace the gasket, which is only available as an OEM part. Lots of shops try and reuse the existing one because the gasket is expensive and they don't want to bother with the dealerships.

Thanks for the reply. I contacted my closest Lexus dealer and they put me in contact with their body shop. I was quoted 2400 for repair using all oem hardware and calibration. Waiting on insurance currently. The shop said they can have parts by tomorrow. Just waiting on insurance at the moment. I should probably just pay for it upfront. Who knows how long insurance will take for approval. Th wife unit will be without her vehicle for a couple days.
Insurance won't be the hold up, it's just a gamble as to whether having that claim will make your premium go up more than what they would pay out.
FWIW, factory gaskets, Aftermarket glass, all in on our 08 was ~$700 by the best regarded windshield place in town. I don't know what all really needs recalibration after glass installation, but it's fairly certain $2400 is on the high end of what the job should cost you.

Thank you for the input. What glass did you have installed? Shop is telling me that trim pieces need replaced as well. Just wanting it fixed without getting screwed. Of course insurance is low balling the repair. The heavily accented claim agent "Sara" has me at a whole new level of pissed.

That windshield is OEM Lexus part number and same price as I see at Lexus online parts site. Our CPO has a aftermarket windshield and it’s ok but I’d rather have OEM, I believe the HUD would look better with the OEM. Also, 100% do the trim, ours wasn’t done and you can tell. I’ve been debating on doing this same task and eating the cost just for the new trim and OEM glass.
