I agree with Cary, from a purely mechanical engineering standpoint, no physiology. I broke and smashed many helmets, back when crashing twice a week meant I was pushing myself enough. My newest helmet is pretty flimsy by comparison. I suspect the industry and regulators have decided they'll get more people to wear flimsy helmets than heavy helmets, therefore the greater good is served by lowering standards.
I need to replace mine, I don't really know if I smacked my head last time I crashed, it's hard to know looking at the helmet. I want one that somehow minimizes wind noise, kinda hard to select for that. I want a bright color, I've gone over too many hoods of drivers who didn't see me. I'm hoping my helmet light will fit and stay on, but I can modify if needed.
