Receiver Hoist

For recovering game? Five hundred pounds is too light for elk. Too vertical to load something into the center of a trailer. Think I would start with something like one of Harbor Freight boom hoists that swivel. Most receiver hitches can handle five hundred pounds without support from the ground which would allow you to move it around.

Something like this?

That is an idea. Need to pull out the welder. I would need to extend it out far enough to clear the FJ40 rear gate, and possible be able to offset it to one side or the other so as to be able to load an elk, or whatever, into the back.

Thanks for the idea. I purchased a 16" receiver extender to clear the rear tailgate. I also purchased the truck bed mount hoist and boom (1000 lb capacity) from Harbor Freight.

I have a receiver winch mount, and will mount the hoist on it. That way it is removable. Maybe if I can find wingnuts in that size (12 X 1.75), I will make the hoist a quick release from the winch mount for ease of storage. I will post pics as I get it put together.
