hey scott, if your xt brakes are the old style dual piston caliper style (easy to spot) then i would like to buy them off you when you switch.

Those are awesome old school brakes. They're pretty hard to find in decent shape these days. I saw a pair on a bike last year in Arizona.

Semlin, have you considered the Saint line from Shimano? I've seen your photos of where you ride. My guess is you need powerful brakes or at least a larger rotor to slow down safely and consistently on those hills/mountains of yours.

yep, around here the trails are so up and down we end up riding all mountain bikes on near downhill trails a lot. my bike had old school xts on it originally and the guy switched them out when he sold it to me and put them on his new bike so i would like to get back to stock. quite a few guys here use the old xts on newer all mountain bikes to squeeze a little more out. the bike shop guys say they were way over-engineered for the task and work better than the new xtrs.

the saints are the next best thing but i thought there was something weird about mounting them.

The mounting shouldn't be any different, although I'd imagine you'll need a different adaptor as the Saints will run the 7 or 8 inch rotors.

Best of luck. Post pics if you change your set-up.

No, mine are single-piston, new in '06. I have the old ones, not likely they'll ever have any value, will probably throw them away.
