I am rebuilding/restoring a 1987 2h power steering pump, reservoir and hard lines
I thought I would take some pics and add any tips that might be useful along the way.

Starting with the Pump
Disassembly as per the FSM

To unseat the spring seat I had to use a M8 bolt and some washers to pop the spring seat a little and then wiggle it the rest of the way out.

once everything was disassembled the housings and reservoir went to the plating shop for a dip and a yellow zinc plate for the reservoir and a clear zinc plate for the
pump housing, bolts and bracket.

I then called up Cdan and ordered the following parts:

reservoir stickers 44391-14010
44391-30020

Pump Gasket Kit 04446-35010

Rear Plate Spring 90501-23014

Flow Control Spring 90501-12103
90501-12447

Snap ring 90521-44002
Snap ring 90520-15001
Snap ring 96151-01700

I will update with more pics when I get the housing's back.

I know this is old thread, but nice write up and pics, I'm about to do the same rebuild. Thanks for putting together!

@dudedude , @blemarr , how did this power steering pump finish up? Is it still working since you did it? I might be doing the same thing if I can't get mine to stop groaning, so I wonder if this is a good option.

Looks like a couple of the parts are NLA. The flow control spring 90501-12447 and a couple of the snap rings. Can probably find the snap-rings, but not sure about that spring.

I actually spoke to the folks at cruiser parts.net, I mailed mine to them and they rebuilt it for me for around $300. It worked fine for a few years and then I sold the vehicle.

George,What oil are you using ?? I had put power steering fluid in mine and it groaned like you say. Read a thread that says to use ATF oil and thats what FSM says also.. :bang: Changed oil and All is good.

Hey Pete! Thanks for chiming in. I actually did use ATF. I've now figured out I still had some air in the system. Spent a few hours yesterday bleeding it, and the groan is gone. I might still buy the seal kit while it's still available though - just in case.
