Oh come ON! A cast iron block? This thing begs for boost! Put together a small kit for about a grand and you'll be very happy. the most expensive part will be finding an exhaust manifold, or getting one made.

Dude, Ditch The 6cyl Pig. Let Me See, Stick With The 120 Horse Power Cast Iron Boat Anchor Heavy Hunk Of Cast Iron 10 Mpg In-efficient Poor Carbureated Expensive Parts For It Motor. Or Go With The Lighter More Efficient Higerhorse Power Cheapest Parts In The World Always In Stock For 18mpg Power Plant. Who Cares About Original Unless You Have A Diesel. It's Worth More With A Fuel Injected Chevy, No Mater What Anyone Says. Go With The V-8......but I Do Find It Wierd That Yours Crapped Out At 80k Cause Mine Was Still Runnin Strong At 180k When I Did My Swap. Good Luck.

my 2F died at 192K , cracked block becaise the previous owner was a nad sack , currently swapping in a 383 stroker ... pricey for the conversion kit but the motor was free

Yeah Those Kits Are Pricey. The A/a Motor Mounts Are A Must, Such A Good Design And Easy Too, But The Best Thing To Do Is To Piece It Together Your Self. Good Call On The Stroker

2F change

yeah went to a 383 Stroker , NP 203 TH400 , Dana 70 rear Dana 60 front and a SOA , all for under a grand including the initial purchase of the rig , lots of side plumbing wirk for guys to get parts , gotta love being able to plumb and install boilers

I don't know about your 2F being a pain, but I've got 240K on mine and I can pass with wild abandon :) At 78K your 2F probably has not even started to wear. Replace the bad bearing that is problem and treat it right and get another 200K. And as far as cost. Swapping in a 350 CORRECTLY will cost just as much if not more than a complete rebuild.

I cant imagine anything being worn out at 78K requiring a full rebuild. I agree that you should confirm its a bearing and replace it first (or all while you have the pan off), drive it for 10 years then consider a full rebuild. Change to 31's to get a little overdrive for highway if you are running stock.

alost forgot, check on the LCML for Jim Godwin over in Auburn, he could probably direct you to additonal help in Montgomery area.
