Ok, so I installed a lovely new brass gear for my rear piggy window, got everything back together, still just grinds away and will only roll down unassisted. Any ideas? I noticed when it was all apart that there was some sort of rubber bushing between the motor and gearbox. Could that be the issue? (didn't take a pic of it when I had it apart). Any other issues I should be looking at?

Does it make a grinding noise when it's going down?

When you try to put it up what does it do?

it grinds for a second, then catches and rolls down fine, just grinds and grinds when you try to roll it up. it takes three people to get the window up.

Is the window properly adjusted and is the tailgate straight? Mine will occasionally grab on the weatherstrip when rolling down but you need to be sure that the tailgate opening for the window is straight and true. The glass also needs to be pushing straight up not off to one side. Do you have the shop manual where it talks about window adjustments? Maybe the teeth on the window mechanism are messed up (the big arms that actually raise the window).

I have the Haynes manual, I'll have to check it. I know for a fact it is not the gear cos I had fun revving the motor up and watching it spin (simple pleasures, I know :grinpimp:). I have no weatherstripping to speak of and I did notice a lot of lateral play in the window. I'll hit up that Haynes manual ASAP and buy those good Toyo manuals post haste. I just can't let that awesome gear sit in there unused cos I can't adjust a window properly!

Sounds like the regulator is mis-aligned. It's a pain in the ass.

I have the Haynes manual, I'll have to chuck it.

I fixed it for you!!

I'll see if I can scan the page dealing with the rear window adjustments and post that up but it sounds like the window arms are not meshing correctly. Take a picture and post up so we can see what things look like.

Wilco-I should be able to do that when my wife gets home with me camera.

Here's some scans from the OEM shop manual regarding the rear window.

If you can't read it well let me know and I'll send you high res scans.
