Hey guys, first time replacing a rear output seal. I just bought my first fj60 and I'm in the process of replacing the rear output seal. My question is that there seems to be a metal retainer or ring in front of the seal. Do I leave that in place and remove the seal from behind it or does that come out with it? Also, when I removed the rear driveshaft a bit of gear oil oozed out from the rear diff flange. Is that normal or is there a seal that needs replacing there as well? The rear diff didn't seem to be leaking at all with the driveshaft attached. Thanks so much for your help.

I just pulled my drive shaft to replace the t-case rear output seal and noticed the same thing where some oil leaked out of the rear diff behind flange but nothing on the t-case side. What did you learn in your situation? Thanks.
