hmmm.. mines an 85 BJ70. If I may ask is there a part number?

They are from the newer trucks. But it works on older trucks: 42110-60E80

Spring perches have to be cut off and rewelded and your backing plates, parking brake cable and brake components will need to change. And you’ll need hubs/drums/axle shafts/brake lines, etc. It's pretty intensive operation. But doable.

Or, try to find a housing here in the states. 60 series will work but with a wider stance, and you'll still need to change a lot of things. A 40 series FF rear axle housing will work, but will need to modify spring perches. ETC.

Im kinda bummed my 70 didn't come with the rear full floating axle.
Well, if it is an CDN spec BJ70.... AFAIK, they all came with SF rear axle. If it is a JDM spec BJ70, it likely came with a FF axle. It costs more to convert a RHD BJ70 then it costs to slap a FF under a LHD BJ70. So there's that. There are LHD BJ70's in other parts of the world but those cost more than the CDN and JDM BJ70's.... so it's a wash. Be happy with what you have.

Axle housing don’t care whether they are RHD/LHD outside of the parking brake cable assembly to accommodate length.

And then backing plates to accommodate the difference.

Let me clarify, most, maybe all CDN spec BJ70's have SF axles. Most, maybe all JDM spec BJ70/71's came with FF axles. It's a lot cheaper to convert a CDN to FF than it is to convert a JDM to LHD. If you don't care about LHD/RHD, then yeah, you should've gotten a JDM spec.

The question was: I’m bummed: I don’t have a FF RR axle.

The answer is very simple and there are a number of options: all of them are expensive and all of them require significant modifications to a SF axle situation.

Require axle housings/ and everything LH/RH on either end. IE: many thousands of dollars.

I did this conversion in 2014. It sucked.

Hello,

I remember reading that you mentioned there was an extra 100 kg of payload with an FF axle back then.

I guess it is an expensive way to slightly increase your payload.

So, what I'd like to know is, how much would it cost to build up a new FF rear axle from scrach, buying eveyrthing but the third member?

Not including labor/shipping/tariffs about $4k
I can do the labor. Not as bad as I thought, but the tariffs might push it past the cost of a new FF Ford 9" based rear end.
