I am replacing all the fuids an drained the rear differential and when I pulled the plug it was covered in some silver thick substance. Not sure what it is and I didn't take any pictures. Any idea what this could be?

unless there were chunks of gear on it, i wouldnt worry about it, sme fine metal on the magnet is acceptable, is your diff making any noise?
No chunks = GTG.
