Beowulf - thanks. I knew there was another way of doing that.
I bolted my plate opposite the tire carrier side on the bumper (drilled two holes, used stainless bolts). A Kaymar license plate light (came w/ the tire carrier) it bolted to the bumper just to the side of the plate (like in the kaymar catalog)...works well, and the light is plenty bright. I bought the Slee tire carrier plate adapter, but it won't fit, as my wheels are 15" (plus there would be no light...I spoke to a couple of guys who got busted for having no light on their plates).
