I am looking for a rear bumper 'swing out' hinge for a double NATO fuel can holder I want to build. Fuel weight and carrier maybe 80 pounds. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

Glenn

That would do for my light load. My plans are for a swing out only 24" long (about half my width)

With a heavy load the Rockstomper spindle design version has been reported to fail. See the thread link. Further on in the thread a guy from Alberta offered a "two shear" design using a 1" grade 8 bolt, that would be better for heavy loads.

so....why not buy/make his design?

Glenn I can bring my rock stomper hinge to the meeting on tues if you want to look at it? There has been very few of them break. He has sold hundreds of them. if its properly supported on the free end while in the closed position I can't see a problem. I would assume most of the breaks are from poor swing out design.

OK sounds good

trailer hub and spindle? Might be over kill.

in the long run, i think that's the way to go. re-buildable bearings and easy to get parts.

all the "manufactured" rear bars i've seen down this way, use that same set up.
spindle and some sort of hub with (as i found out the other day getting parts) regular old trailer bearings.

two full 40ltr fuel cans is a fair amount of weight.

the swing out tire carrier i made for the old red 60 had a honda civic or crx rear spindle and hub and worked great until i ripped the bumper out of the frame from trying to move buildings at my place.

swing out still worked.:hillbilly:

crusty
