I am TRYING to get my truck through inspection. :crybaby:

I need to know if the rear bumper was an option in 1987 on the mini truck. i have a pickup with deluxe package. if anyone knows where i might be able to find this info...

i have a modified rear and they are claiming that i don't have a bumper.

thanks.

S. :)

Post a pic of your truck as it is now so we might be able to recommend something. IIRC, all the Toyota trucks came with rear bumpers. But, there were different bumper options that you could choose from.

hummm.. anyway of finding out more about the options?

Any body or auto shop or even body parts distributor should be able to help you. Mechanics and body shops should have it in their All-data (any real shop probably has one of some form, even if it's 20 years old, history dont change). Also in the FAQ there is an FSM that may be able to help, do you have a tube bumper or bobbed bed or what is their issue?

i have a flat bed now. no classic bed. frame rails come up 4 " and the rear bumper is made up of 1.5" square tube, goes down 8" or so, then another square tube with lights in between. guys at DMV claim it is not a bumper. it is also a little high.

Can anyone with an 85-87 pickup or 4runner give me the dimmension from ground (when truck is flat) to the bottom of the steel bumpers on a stock vehicle? i know there is a guard on the truck (air dam or something) that i am missing.

I am going to start a separate thread to ask that question... :)

thanks.

'86 4runner, stock bumpers, tires measure 28" tall, 2" Downey springs in rear, stock front suspension, truck sits pretty much level:

from ground to bottom of front bumper = 24"
from ground to bottom of rear bumper = 20-21"

HTH

i don't have a bumper on my 84. i'm in texas and i've driven past lots of cops and not been pulled over for it. i even had one following me for a while in downtown Ft Worth. i've still got it i just thought it looks better without the bumper but they did all come with bumpers.

Post some photos so that we can see what you have and make suggestions.

"all the Toyota trucks came with rear bumpers."
NOPE,,.. thats wrong.
I bought my 85 SR5 X-Cab in April, the 12th, that year.(I remember because it gets a birthday gift, oil change or wash job, LOL)
It only had 5 miles on it and didn't have a bumper in the rear.
Looks better without but, because I have always had a 17' boat I needed a way to hitch it up.
So I put a round tube type with a flat plate sticking out the back for the ball, on and wasn't very impressed a year later when the tube started twisting and the plate was starting to head for the ground and I about lost my boat off it!!!!
