Finally installed the backup camera, tied to the new double-din JBL head unit. I had not seen this specific installation type detailed/covered and if it helps a MUD member, all the better.
Uncharacteristically, I took my time and routed the video cable from the dash, under the carpet and in the appropriate cable channels, and behind the passenger-side cargo panel. Spent some time under the rear of the truck just investigating where/how to place the camera. I was very focused on NOT drilling holes into the tailgate/body of the truck and finally realized I could mount it under the rear frame where there was already a threaded hole, slightly off center of the tailgate. It placed the camera towards the passenger side by 6 inches and approximately four inches under the frame which impedes the image a little but has the excellent effect of being almost invisible when looking at the truck from the rear.
Once mounted, I found good places to run the cable from (approximately) the center to the passenger side exterior corner grommet. Used an exacto to slice a very small hole in it and feed the video cable through and up to the passenger side rear corner to meet and connect the video cable from the head unit. Spliced into the passenger-side reverse taillight for power and the ground for the camera's ground wire. Used the Wago splice connectors for the first time. SO easy. Buttoned up the whole thing and voila!
Now there's a backup image on the dash to assist my wife and son who drive the LC around town more often as they've both grown addicted to people saying "cool car!" (my wife) and friends saying "that truck is SICK!" (my son). All good.
