I went to the Hungry valley CORVA event. I decided to follow the group I was with into one of the set-up rock pits, which turned out to be rougher than I expected. Had I had rocker sliders, and a real front bumper, the cosmetic damage wouldn't have been as bad, but that's besides the point. Upon exit of the rocks, I had a noticeable clicking. Testing things out it is doing it 4-high, 4, low, locked and unlocked, but only with load on the left rear or initial acceleration. Hopefully it's just from what I am reading here to be the bearings needing a repack. What else should I be looking at when I take it apart? I have already had the driver side axle shaft out and there is no twisting or other damage there. Thanks in advance.

Well, I replaced both bearings and races on the driver side rear hub, and still have the clicking with load on that wheel. Looks like I gotta dig into the differential area. This I am not looking forward to doing, but this is the cost of wheeling.

After climb...crawling under the rig I noticed some shiny spots on the t-case output u-joint yoke. These shiny spots also showed up on the muffler...hmmm I say to myself. I inspect the exhaust system further. It appears the OEM hangars have been broken for some time as there is no signs of fresh breakage on them, and the slight snagging I had while wheeling pushed the exhaust just enough to the center of the rig to have the muffler just close enough to the yoke to make contact. So, off to the parts store for an e-cheapo hangar to install and see what happens. I've got my fingers crossed on this being something this simple. I'll know later in the day.

That would be great if that's all it is!

HAHA!

It wasn't the rear axle after all. It was in fact, just the exhaust being shifted over due to the old broken hangars. All good now!

Still I'll be ordering the sliders (MetalTech) and front bumper (Slee Short Bus) in short order.

That's Great! Pics will be necessary when the sliders and bumper are on!!!

I take pics of everything I do to my vehicles. Short of repairs. Rest assured when I get the sliders and bumpers there will be a picture or two. My hold-up right now is being in the military and having to leave the area for 6 weeks for a school. I may order them while I am there though in an attempt to have them delivered within a day or so of when I get back home. Time and $ will tell.
