Im trying to pull the number one oil pan (Read the bigger one) while the motor is in the truck. It is getting hung up (when it drops and it needs more room backwards than the tranny will allow) on the welded front crossmember for the steering bracket. Does or has anybody done this with the motor still in the truck?

Any help would be most appreciated and I tried searching.

Never tried it on my 80, but had a similar situation with my 22r. Can you drop the pan enough to reach under and remove the oil sending unit? That's my guess on what's hanging you up. Hope it helps & good luck!

Thanks guys. I just got off the phone with Robbie. He provided me with the tip on lifting the crank after the frame mounted engine mounts have been loosened up a bit.

Did you raise the engine? Watch for the fan when you do this, make sure you don't break the blades.

This is what Robbie said.
