Real time help near Golden BC

Anyone know any cruiser heads near Golden BC? Or a diesel head? Or a tow company?lol.

The guy that bought my BJ60 just called me stating that he thinks the motor blew. I suspect its grabbing air into the fuel system.

He said boost and power would drop off then surge back. This would happen on and off throughout the day. H20 temp never got hot and oil pressure is fine. Sounds like he's pulled over at a rest stop. When he gets the truck to start it stumbles and sputters.

I know he has a jerry can on the roof of spare diesel, I might get him to run a hose from the jerry to the oem fuel filter under the hood.

His cell provider doesn't have coverage there so he has to ask a Telus person to borrow their phone whenever one pulls in.

For now I told him to bleed the fuel system and see if he gets any air.

Any thoughts or help appreciated.

check the lines heading from the IP to the butterfly on the intake for leaks. Check all the intake plumbing, inside/out to see if there's something blocking occasionally (maybe something got in there or is loose. He's either starving fuel or air, so you have to systematically start isolating things. How rusty were the lines/tank? any chance there is something floating in the tank? I would gradually start bypassing things until it went away.

I actually haven't heard anything else. His call came in at about 7:00pm and I suspected I'd be getting broken phone calls here and there into the early hours, but nothing. So either its fixed or on a tow truck. Or he got eaten.

I know there is a metal pickup that drops into the tank that usually rusts and lets in air in tiny amounts until it all builds up enough to starve the IP. I suspect that is the issue.

Last week I had a look at it for a boost leak, found one and fixed it. So I'm confident the "air" side of the equation isn't to blame.

Ill keep this thread updated, hopefully with some good news.

Gotta love providing support to buyer's of project vehicles eh? Funny how the first thing they do is contact the seller when they have a problem.

Had to do the same when I sold my built MR2 to a guy who was mechanically incompetent. Car was really solid/reliable, but even changing engine oil was new for him. After a year or two he become more independent though, haha. I guess its all part of selling a unique and modified vehicle.

i just got back from squito lake around kamploops. i went out 4x4 ing with 4quads, burried my truck in mud and ended up filling my alternator with mud . i had to tare it apart for cleaning,in doing so i knocked the intake pipe loose and had no turbo boost . found that and fixed it and it ran alittle better but couldnt get the revs up. found i had also knocked one of my little boost hoses off. fixed that but could not pull revs up. limped all the way to kamploops in low range idle(fuel starvation ). lordco had no specs for a filter but the guy said he sold one for a hilix 4 banger truck. i called the boys at ateb (sunday afternoon)or confirmation on fit ability. bingo all fuel filters are the same. swap out the fiilter on the side of the road ( behind lordco) and bingo full boost full fuel . i thought i did something serious to it with all the launching trying to follow the quads. i will add that my hand pump on the fuel filter was firm all the time plugged up or the new one. oh and saw greg and lindsay (ikeedikeed)at sloequet hot springs on the way back home. hope it works out on your end.

Well I finally got word that it was indeed air in the fuel system. The little "B" is still ticking along. He bled it over and over until he got to Grand Prairie. He didn't mention where the air was coming from or how/if he fixed it.

Whatever the case, thanks for the PM's guys and all the support. Nice to know a guy can get help from total strangers at the last minute.... heck, even third party last minute help.
