First of all thanks to those of you that posted in my other thread asking about the "Tube Sub Assembly" on my 87, 2wd, EFI, minitruck. All your advice was very helpful. I have since after lots of looking found a new fuel pump bracket at a junkyard in CO and he shipped it to my door for 50 bucks. I took the bed off as you all described, got the old bracket off.... didn't even break the rusty screws.

Now my question is: On the new bracket, he sent the high pressure flex line along with it so I got a new one of those. Now I need to disconnect the old one from the metal fuel line. A while back the guy I bought the truck from had the metal fuel line replaced with a rubber one for most of the way. However there is still a foot or so left of the metal line right where it hooks to the high pressure line. Is there a different way to hook it up? Is there a fitting or adapter or anything I can hook to my new high pressure line and take that right into the rubber line? I'm ready to hook up the new bracket but can't get the little hunk of hard line unscrewed from the old high pressure line. Hope I've explained this clearly. If not I'll try and get a picture

How it was hooked up before:

bracket -> high pressure flex line - > screwed to metal fuel line (only like 12 inches of actual metal fuel line) - > Rubber fuel line with hose clamps - > engine

Can I go :

bracket -> high pressure line -> rubber line? (or any other solution so I don't ABSOLUTELY need that metal line with the screw end on it?)

Thanks guys, I might actually get this thing back running thanks to you guys.

went to Napa and they sell a "fuel line repair kit"... which has a piece of metal fuel line with that screw fitting on the end of it. That screws into the high pressure line. Seems perfect, exactly what I need EXCEPT..... they're all standard not Metric. Is there anyone/anywhere that makes sells a fuel line repair kit but with metric fittings on the end? The 5/16 almost fit but it is clearly metric. Any help would be great.

Would it be possible to cut the end off the high pressure flex line and put like a compression fitting on there? Or just run rubber hose with fuel injection clamps on it instead?

Thanks so much already guys.

I gotta believe someone has had to repair fuel lines before. no matter what you gotta screw something into that high pressure flex line. Seems like maybe it's 14mm. No ideas?

I don't see the initial problem. Is it because you cannot get the old line off??

Did you try a penetrating lubricant?

To answer your question, yes there are folks that can make that line. NAPA can custom make a line for you with the right fittings-at least they can here in KY.

But I would try to get that old line off and use what was originally there. No point in spending more money if you don't have to.

Initial problem is that the old bracket and high pressure line are rusty and broken. I got a new bracket with a new high pressure flex line connected to it already... both in great shape. But.... at the one end of the OLD flex line the metal hard line is rusted fused in there. So I just need a new piece that will screw into my new flex line. Don't need a big huge long fuel line because most of the line had been replaced with rubber fuel line. Just need something to take it from high pressure flex line to the rubber. Before I took it apart it was just 8 inches or so of hard line with that screw end on it screwed into the high pressure line and slid inside the rubber hose on the other end with a few hose clamps.

Sorry if that was a horrible explanation lol. Sometimes it's so easy cuz I can see it in front of me but hard to explain with text. Especially for a newbie mechanic =)

Thanks for the response

I finally got the old line out. A torch and some channel locks managed the job in the end. However, the fitting looks a bit mangled now. It is probably usable but I called the guy at the junkyard in Colorado that sent me the bracket and flex line and he's just gonna cut me the chunk I need off the same truck as the bracket came off. Couple bucks in shipping and hopefully I'll be in business. =) Til the next problem comes about sooner than later thanks for all the help guys.
