I was going to do a drain and refill of my ATF and noticed a couple of things.

1. dip stick says Dexron II, I bought Dexron III (castrol dino) can the two be mixed in without issues to the tranny?

2. My fluid level cold is sitting around the hot marker, while cold. I am assuming I should only fill to the cold marker when cold?

Anything else I should do/consider?

thanks

1 dextron III meets and excees the specifications of dextron II, basically dex III is an upgraded dex II so they are compatible

2. what is it hot? the cold markins is basically a maintenance guide to let you know that you have enough in there to drive it get it warmed up and then check it hot, the hot level is what we are truely intereded in, if it is is the hot when cold you are probably overfull, automatic transmissions do not like to be any more than slightly overfull.

Thanks Raven, I thought the fluid was ok per the marks on the bottle, I just wanted to check. As a follow up seams like reading posts on the drain and fill method. The refill is 4 quarts? I put in 3 and it appears to be full (cold) I'm planning on going to a drive after the kids are down to get the temp up and recheck. Does only 3qts seam a little odd?

three does seam like too little, your A343 (95-97) shoudl take between 4 and 4.5 quarts, it seams to vary by how warm the transmission is when the pan is drained.
