Hi Everyone, I just purchased my first land cruiser! An 85 FJ 60. I’m stoked, but I live in CA and the vehicle has been de-smogged. I brought it in from Oregon. I’m hoping that someone has some ideas/resources on how to acquire all of the missing smog parts so that I can restore it back to stock move forward on this project. And before anyone says anything, I am very aware of how stupid I was for getting myself in this mess, but I wanted an FJ60 so much. Thanks!

Start hitting up the classifieds section on his forum. Parting out, engines and drivetrains.
Finding them parts is going to be tough.
Or you may also get lucky and find a whole smog equipment that a Kemer remover.
Also hit up some the Slav age yard vendors here also. Good luck!
Ad a pic to see the new rig.
And welcome to MUD.

There's so many doo dads associated with the emissions system and an appalling rat's nest of vacuum hoses that all have to be connected correctly, I honestly don't think anyone, except a long time FJ60 owner who's very familiar with all the smog equipment, would be able to figure out how to put it all back together perfectly if just presented with a box full of parts. It's really complicated.

That being said, I think someone wirh determination, without experience, could put it all back together correctly IF they had another stock FJ60 to look at frequently (to compare) while they installed all the parts.

But based on my experience, without a donor vehicle to compare side be side, without any prior knowledge how it goes back together, re-smogging a FJ60 correctly with only a box of parts available, would be an almost "impossible" task.

I appreciate the info, and the diagrams. I have some experience with GM trucks and (not that I’m stalking anyone) I know there are two other FJ60’s in town. I’m hoping to connect with those people (I drive by theirs pretty regularly) and hope to have a reference in doing so.

Where are you? I have a rig in the Bay area on the peninsula, and would be happy to have you look at my 60 as reference.
That’s very kind of you, I’m in Chico, but if local options fail to bear fruit I may take you up on your offer, there are worse day trips in the world.

Let’s see some photos of the engine bay. You might have gotten lucky and the person who de-smogged it left a bunch of the bits.

It’s a complicated system, but simple at the same time, once you learn how to think of the components in isolation.

Let’s see what you’ve got to start with. Fingers crossed it’s not a dui distributor and Webber carb.

@Whoops

Buy a silver star (annual $20) so you can post unlimited pix. You're gonna need it.

Good luck.

Some areas of CA are less strict than others. Find out what's the SOP in your area and go from there.

Good luck.

No reprieve on that front, Butte County seems to fall in line with the rest of the state. I do know that I only need to meet federal standards though because of the mileage (still weird to me but the Air Resource Board conformed on two separate occasions).

Thanks! Here are some pics. Had to get out of town to take them, only seemed right.

Nice truck.

As stated, post in 'Wanted' section. There are a lot of people who have desmgd and may have the parts lying in the garage.

If possible, try to find stuff that came off a running motor.

So, you have NOTHING, as far a smog equip goes?

Pic of engine bay, and remove the driver's kick panel and take a pic of that area to see if the computer is still there.

Thanks, just posted some of the engine bay. I’ll get back to you on the computer.

I hate to say this, but with those headers, you're really really gonna have a hard time.... You're gonna need a stock exhaust manifold to pass visual.

At this point, I would scour Craig's list for a junked FJ60 (or bone yard) to try and find everything at once....

If the computer is missing i have one that i just removed on a 84fj60 that i am ls swapping

There is a guy on CL who is selling a engine with all the smog stuff. The engine has no compression on #3 and #4 but so far all the stuff is there. I’ll try getting you the link.
You are missing quite a few things there.
Btw nice rig.

Tough task, and as Spike pointed out...Headers are a visual fail! Is the cat still in place?

If it's not your daily driver, do you know anyone out of state where you could register it and keep it?
;);););););)😉😉😉😉😉😜
