Wondering if anyone in RDU has a car hauler trailer I can borrow, picking up Thursday and returning either Fri or Sat AM? I am happy to "rent" it, provide your favorite drink, etc. I can get one from UHaul but suspect they will try to upsell 100 things. GX has a hitch (rated to 5k), trailer wiring etc., I'll just need to figure out a 2" drop hitch.

Thanks.

What are we getting Joe?????

When doing your weight figures be sure to ask if the tractor tires are ballasted.

I am not real towing savvy, if you couldn't guess. I have the factory hitch on my GX that is secured to the rear crossmember - it is not a full frame-mounted hitch like Curt, Drawtite, etc. Lexus rates it/GX for 5000 lbs; whereas a full hitch ups the rating to 6500 lbs. The "tractor" weighs around 3300 lbs. if I had to guess. Not sure if this gross weight (2300 + 3300 = 5600) is the proper method of determining load, or if there is some math of which I am unaware.

Net is I don't want to risk being overloaded, for safety and other reasons. I'll have to tow 350ish mi; if it was across town, I would take side streets/back roads and not sweat it.

Yeah - I would not tow that with your GX.

Ditto. If you get in an accident towing with anything (even a draw bar or ball) not rated for the load, it could cost you even if the accident isn't your fault.
