Having established that FM Radio IN the US uses the same or similar frequencies to the UK do FM radios in the US use Radio Data Signal RDS. A tuning device that may show the name of the station or display other data. Basically what I am trying to find out is would a radio from an 80 in the US be compatable in the UK

I have seen radios in the U.S. with automatic station naming and sometimes even the artist/song or show. Our 100 has this option, so the answer to your question sounds like a yes. You do want to make sure though that your radio stations broadcast over the same FM frequencies. In the US I believe it is 87.9-107.1 or there about. In Japan and Australia I recall that it is different.

If I recall, the frequences in the US are the odd ones (102.3) and the frequences in EU are the even ones(102.4). The older non digital radios would work fine, but not sure the new digital ones would, or at least very well.
