The piglet was up outside of Prince. I flew with my Cambodian visitor so didn't feel justified in posting up pics from that 1 week leg. The set I posted was Abby - Oliver - Rossland/Trail - Castlegar - Kelowna (via 33) - Kamloops - Logan Lake - Kamloops - back to Vancouver. With the side trips and stuff, I've racked up over 3000 kms.
The mine was the Highland Valley mine near Logan Lake. We couldn't get in but I found a logging road that got us up behind the old pit with a good view of the whole thing. Logging is shut down for spring break-up. The road was pretty muddy. Still over 3' of ice on Logan Lake. Young kid had just pulled out an nice 3lb trout. I wanted to do some ice driving on a lake just south of Logan Lake but my visitor was not up for the idea. There were a few 4x4 out on that lake.
Speaking of mines, had a good meeting with the Kamloops band's business development director. They got a sweet deal with that gold mine just out of town. There is another big mine - Ajax mine - planned for Kamloops right beside Aberdeen. Teck owns the property but it looks like a European company that is 30% owned by the Polish government is going to develop it. It'll likely kill a world class trout lake. The plan is to have it in operation within 3 years. The waste rock and tailings will fill an area 2/3 the way up Sugar Loaf mountain. If you own property in Aberdeen, now is the time to sell before they start blasting. This is going to be a big mine - 2/3rds the size of Highland Copper and a pit down to the level of the Thompson Valley.
