I am looking to refresh my R151F behind a 1HZ. What are the differences between the early turbo 22RE boxes, the 80/105 series boxes, and the 07+ boxes besides the tail shaft housing and output shaft splines? Will a BK163DWS rebuild kit be correct for my gearbox? (Gearbox was from 1998).
Thanks

Are you sure of what gearbox you have?

Post some pics of the gearbox.

What vehicle do you have? Is it the original motor and transmission?

R151 boxes were not used in any 80 series
80 series used H150 ( behind 1HZ only) or H151 ( behind 1fzfe and 1hdt, 1hdft)

R151 was used behind the 1HZ in 105 series landcruisers.
It is a light duty box, and is known for a couple of different failures behind 1hz in the heavy 105 series.
R151 and H15# boxes really aren't comparible. The H15# are much bigger & heavier internally & externally

It’s behind a 98 HZJ105. I’ve heard the HZJ80 had the same combo. I’ve been told in the 100 forum that the 80 guys are far more likely to have seen the HZ/151 combo. The 100 guys didn’t have much to say. Most of the info I can find is related to 150/151 flavors found in USDM vehicles. I can upload an actual photo tomorrow, but this is what it looks like. I know the tail housing and t case is different on my truck than the USDM stuff, I’m just trying to figure out what the internals share before ordering parts. I’m working away from home so I haven’t been able to take it apart. I’m hoping to order parts for when I have time again.

Would I be better off asking 70 series guys? Did the newer HZJ7xs have the r151?

Why not just buy parts for the 105?

Cheers

The hzj105 is the ONLY Landcruiser to use the R151F.
It was not used in any 80 series, or 70 series.

In hzj105, the t case is essentially the same as in 80 series, but the input gear is different to fit up to the smaller R151F out put shaft.

Search partsouq.com etc using your VIN to find parts suitable for your vehicle

There's aftermarket upgrade kits available for the R151F to address some of the known issues from a could of aussie suppliers. If you're rebuilding, it could be worth looking into.

A lot of aussies ditch the R151, and swap in H152 boxes. There's several good write ups on this here, or in the diesel tech section. @wedgetail did a good write up, but there's others done by US based members

I’m not looking to put an H box in it. The HZJ76 has a R151 in it My main question is are will the easily accessible parts in the US for vehicles such as the T100 (R150F) will work for my transmission. Are the bearings and retainers all the same.
Why not just buy parts for the 105?

Cheers
Im trying my hardest to order parts domestically and avoid shipping from Australia or the UAE. I’ll just piecemeal it on PartSouq if it comes to it but would rather just buy a kit that comes with everything and won’t get lost by DHL and hit with duties. If there is something for the 105 stateside I just haven’t been able to find I’d love to purchase it :).

pull up the parts diagram, get the part numbers and then search the part number to see if it's the same as the USDM trucks of the same year range. it most likely is. i have a complete set of genuine scycos that i vin ordered for a 2001 tundra for sale, it's very likely that they are the same. i have the part numbers posted here: For Sale - R15x series, syncros, dyna 0.68 5th gears R150 core - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r15x-series-syncros-dyna-0-68-5th-gears-r150-core.1381412/
very likely that the bearing kit is also the same, many places online that have those. might as well get a chomoly 1st gear thrust washer to go with it too.
