Im in the process of converting the 93 to 134a but the retrofit adapter for the low side is smaller than the 7/16 adapter the Universal kit came with. The kit is the same one you get at any parts store and it says that all low side ports are 7/16.

I tried some fittings and nuts on the r12 port and its a 3/8-24 thread pitch or 1/8 NPT. I tried to find a male 7/16-20 to female 3/8-24 adapter at lowes without success.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of anyone that sells the correct adapter?

Napa was the only place in town that sells a kit that's supposedly for the 80, but we can't confirm the fitting size until it arrives on Tues. And its a $34 kit......

Thanks in advance.

The low-side R12 port is always 1/4" male flare thread. While the high-side is usually the same size as the low, in certain applications it could be a smaller 3/16" male flare. The best adapters to use are the steel ones that have their own schrader valve, just be sure to remove the schrader from the original port before installing the adapter fitting. We sell them under the Omega #35-16363-S for about $5. If you have an A/C specialist in the area, they should carry the good ones. If you can't find them, let me know and I can send them your way. Those "retro" kits are way overpriced because they include a bunch of stuff you don't need...

Sorry to highjack this thread. I bought a Mastercool R12/R134 manifold gauge set for my 93 R12 system. The low side fit but the highside i guess is a bit smaller. So is the low 1/4 and the high is 3/16 therefore i need a adapter?

I’m in same boat on my 1992 FJ80. The universal adapter kit fits on the low side (picture left port), but the high side (picture right port) r12 port on the compressor is smaller diameter and tighter thread. Both of the universal adapter fittings are too large for the high side port on the compressor.

Does anyone know where we can purchase a 134a adapter fitting for this smaller high side port?

Thank you, sir!!!

One more question I’m ashamed to ask. I can’t convince myself which port is the high and which is the low. The suction and liquid lines come into a manifold on top of compressor that makes it look like either port could be high or low.

Based on the picture above (1992 3FE FJ80), which side is HIGH side: left (closer to engine block) or right (farther from engine block)?
