I've been thinking about picking up those 60 series axles at Airport, but I don't want 3.73's. Can I swap my 40/55 series R&Ps into the 60 series axles? Or is it better to hold out for 62 series axles?

Yes you can put your 40/55 thirds into the 60 LC housings.

Hmm...they want $1k for the pair, with springs. That seems steep to me, but I've never bought axles before -- any opinions?

I think the springs were stock. I didn't see it on the ground. I may not even use them - they were to give me something to play with while I figure out the outboard issues.

I got a complete mini truck axle from them for $225, so I would say $1K sounds high. I doubt 30 year old springs will add much to the deal. In my experience those guys will wheel and deal a fair amount. Try to haggle them down and only get the axles. Also make sure you get the whole axle, mine was missing the Asin hubs and calipers when I picked it up. I made them give me the missing parts.

I agree that 1k is too much. The advantage is that they are close, but 60's are getting older and there are more of them showing up/getting parted out.

Look to the 'Mud classifieds for an idea on what a set of axles "should" go for.

I'll have to look into it in a week. Heading for Bakersfield and Riverside. Weeeee!

By the way, what's 88 like this time of year? The kids haven't seen Moaning Cavern yet, and I have a strong urge to hang my Hank Hill like arse from a rope over a small crowd. I haven't driven to Sonora in 12 or 13 years.
