Hi guys
I'm trying to find a budget solution for windows shades on my 80. I intend to sleep in it and I obviously would need some privacy at night (and coolness during daylight). My dad used to have some custom-made curtains for his van in Europe, out of quilted silver fabric, that used to stick with suction cups. Any clue on where I could find that kind fabric anywhere in retail around LA? Thanks and cheers. Grolar

Sweet. Thanks to your help, I found that at Home Depot: Reflectix
Looks good as well, now I have to check some measurements!
Cheers Grolar

sound like windowquilt material

Growing up in New England we had what we called a WindowQuilt..that was just that. It was tan (like many 80 interiors) and felt like it had that silvery stuff sandwiched in the 'quilt'.

maybe check that angle...might even get it to match the interior.

I've got a roll of the 'sunshade' stuff, and will someday cut to fit and use velcro to seal it all up.

Grolar,

good find at HD and the prices aren't too out of line. Shoot us some pics when your finished some of us may want to copy your setup. thanks.

IBCRUSN: I checked y'day the window sizes and if I didn't mess too much, a roll of "4 Ft. x 25 Ft. Reflective Insulation - Model 732648" should be plain enough to cover all windows of the 80 (and maybe the ones of my Matrix as well:D). The price at Home Depot is only $37.95. I'll go there tonight and check it out for thickness and flexibility. I might have to sew some straps around the edges to prevent decay in the long run, but it looks promising so far. I'll surely post some photos when I'm done. Cheers. Grolar.

I've used reflectex as a noise barrier in my 60. Worked OK, but not as good as the real sound dampening products. Reflectex is intended for a permanent install, not a install/remove appliation. Based on how it's held up in my 60, you might be better off encasing it in a lightweight cover. It's not flimsy, but not rugged either. Attaching it would be the trick. Sewing straps around the outside might not last long, I think the straps could pull off. Since it's cheap, you might do a "test run" with it...maybe even using painters blue tape to hold it in place. Try it for a night or two, if it suits your needs, then fab a more durable solution.

G,

You might try a fabric or carpet store for binding the edges. It would certainly last longer as you say and look really good.

FYI - Secured a 25 x 4 ft. roll yesterday at Lowes, Home Depot have it on their website but not in their stores :frown:. Its sucks as Lowes sells it for 10 bucks more ($52 with tax), but I was too happy to find a material that seems perfect for the use I'm planning. Scissors will fly this weekend!:bounce:

To keep you posted - Did a bit of a cutting this weekend and the result is far from bad IMHO. But right, this isn't meant to be as rugged as normal shades, even if I reinforced them with sheer tape. I used $2 for six suction cups as well. I'll post some pics asap.

I have also seen the little velcro "buttons" used to attach these to the windows.
