Quiet A/T tires 33"+ (Current tires got LOUD after 30K miles)

I have a 2013 LX which is completely stock suspension-wise other than some 17" ICON wheels (17x8.5 +25mm offset). They fit great and I have some Goodyear Ultraterrain 285/70/17 tires. They are E rated LT tires which I realize was not ideal given I do not really tow/have extra weight.

The issue is within the last 5k miles they have gotten LOUD. Like annoyingly/unbearably loud. They have ~35K on them so I'd guess maybe 50% life left. It's gotten to the point to where I don't even enjoy driving it on the freeway. I'm ready to get rid of these and get something else even though they have plenty of life left on them.

I have my eyes on the new BFG Trail Terrain+ which is set to come out in June. They seem to be a balance of on road performance with a bit of the look/ability of an A/T tire. I know there has been ad nauseum discussion of the Michelin Defender as being the go-to but I am looking for something slightly more aggressive/bigger.

My question is....I currently have 33" tires but am open to going up an inch or so to 34" since I have AHC. However, I REFUSE to have tires as loud as these are now. These Goodyears were okay until about 5K ago. From what I've gathered they were probably even on the noisy side even when new from how you all describe your tires/road noise. Are K03's or AT4's actually reasonable (in standard load rating) at highway speeds? I don't think I'm expecting street tire "quiet-ness", but I don't want my ears to hurt if my windows are down at highway speeds.

Looking for people with experience with multiple tire types/brands. Thanks.

I prefer my Toyos over some K03 attempts I had, although it was the balancing that was the real issue that caused me to ditch the K03. The Toyos have been just fine in the snow, mud & rock as well. Only brands I’ve had on this other than the OEM geolanders.
 
Yeah, an issue (in addition to everything else :mad:) with these Goodyears is that they need to be balanced every 10K too or else I get vibrations at highway speeds. I've heard issues with BFG KO2's needing to be balanced frequently as well. Looking to not have to deal with this BS.
 
& to be clear I find the Toyo’s very quiet. Second set with 20k plus miles so far on them no complaints. First set was on a wrecked car (tires not the issue!) so it’s true I don’t have extended mile experience, but I’ve seen no noise building,
 
Jury is still out on long-term but in the short-term the Nitto Terra grappler G3s have been very quiet for me. They are make in the 285/70r17 and 285/75r17 in both C and E load. I’ve enjoyed them so far.
 
On my Tacoma I have the Firestone Destination AT2 and they are very quiet with good wet traction. Probably have ~15k miles on them and they still look new. If I didn't do so many trips with heavy loads and rocky terrain, I might have put them on the 200, but I really wanted an LT Tire.
The other tire that really looks good in that arena is the Nokian Outpost nAT but I have no personal experience with them.
 
I think if you pick any tire in SL that does NOT have those larger side lugs you will enjoy a much quieter ride as they wear.

Its likely those BFGs you are eyeing will be substantially quieter based on the looks of them. Same with most of the other suggestions in here.

In contrast, I just put a set of Toyo AT3 on my GX and figured if they are coming stock on new GX's and 4Runners, they must be pretty good.....they're rather quiet for now, but I bet they get louder as time goes on based on their design....maybe being SL helps though.

285/75r17 has been a tire size I've been looking at but not a ton of options there.
 
I have some anecdotal evidence for the Yokohama G015 (now called the A/T4). We had a set of these on my Subaru Crosstrek for a few years and they were an excellent road-oriented AT tire. The cost for 275/70s is pretty reasonable and they're a bit lighter weight, which is nice for the fuel consumption. We used the Subaru as a camping vehicle for a while and we took it to some fairly rugged places. The tire was quite durable and the grip was solid in all except deep mud.

They were a little louder than the stock all seasons but still very quiet, even in that tin can of a car.

Almost bought a set of these recently, and I might still try them on my Land Cruiser in the future. I have the BFGs and the road noise is acceptable to me. They're some of the quieter aggressive ATs out there, certainly quieter than the DuraTrac or other RT tires. It's all a tradeoff.
