I'd like to create a power line for my ham radio and another power line for a 6-circuit power hub in my cargo area. I've run 14ga wire from the cabin, through the firewall, and to the battery. When I mentioned to a ham radio colleague that I was doing this, he said, "Be careful not to attach it directly to the battery. Downstream not he positive side is a sensor modern cars use to measure draw on the battery so they know to recharge. If you attach a radio (especially an HF radio), you can draw so much power you drain the battery without the car knowing enough to recharge it."

I know my rig has this thing attached to the positive terminal of the battery. I think it's a usable link and NOT a smart sensor, but I wanted to tap into the ih8mud wisdom here to find out how I should be attaching my power lines. Is there a wiser way to connect them than just at the battery terminal?

Thanks for reading. I look forward to the replies that are informed by experience and technical expertise.

I'd suggest a couple fuse taps off the interior fusebox. Then you get a fused connection inside the rig without having to splice anything onto the battery. A fusetap should work well for low-voltage draw accessories like a HAM radio or a USB charger.

I ran mine on the driver side it was pretty easy. I got a mount from lumber jack engineering for the auxbeam system. It turned out great
