Question on CEL codes...

I was chatting with an owner about a potential buy ('94 TLC) and he said that the CEL came on about 2 months ago. When asked to follow up wiht his mechanic on it he said the following:

"Just spoke with my mechanic. Said it was code 71 or 72, egr system. I've been driving it for 2 months with the light on, he said it doesn't really effect anything. It's been getting better gas mileage for sure."

I found this in the FAQ related to those codes:
71 EGR System.
72 Fuel Cut Solenoid signal.

What is a typical remedy for such codes and should this be a deal-killer?

Mine was a bad egr modulator. $65 from cdan.

Found some of your threads as well as others.... from what I've read on the site plus the information the owner had sent me I'm guessing that the truck may has early symptoms of imminent HG failure... first the owner replaced the radiator (which had a hairline crack on top). Then the truck started throwing these codes - which according to some info I've read here once you start burning coolant the truck may start throwing these codes... so it sounds too risky for me at this point.

I also have a 94 cruiser. Drives great but has a 71 error code. Looking for recommendations for a good shop to help fix this code. Someone close to the Atlanta area.
