I want to buy this '89 LJ73 from a private seller. Everything seems OK with the car but I have a concern.
I know is old but what raises the concern is the color of the engine parts, as if they were painted. I have never seen an engine that doesn't look OME. I still want to buy it but do not want to get a problematic car.
Am I being too picky or should I stay away??

The engine may have had an overhaul in its past.... As long as the compressions are within spec and its not burning oil or using water.... And there aren't oil leaks every where... And its not making unusual noises.... Its good to go....
If you haven't already, get it checked out at a suitable mechanic.

What kbushnz said is great advice, I second that.

Looks like a previous owner replaced some of the inlet pipes with aluminum ones. Thats why it looks different to you. Not a functional advantage really, but shows they took some pride in the vehicle at least.
