A buddy has a 1990 F250 which is built for high speed desert stuff. Anyway, this year he put in a new rear end from Camburg, then ended up installing an Atlas X-fer this month. He went to pick it up from the install shop and 15 miles away he hears this LOUD bang, pulls over- inspects the vehicle and finds the transmission bell housing cracked at least 180 degrees around, that's all he could see from under the truck. He manages to get it back in gear and turns around to go back to the shop, about a mile later BANG! and finds the rear driveshaft hanging off, busted at the x-fer end.

His truck has been towed to the shop and they are looking at it, but we've been knocking our brains around all day to try to figure out what would cause the tranny and drive shaft to snap like that.

The only thing I can think of is that the atlas siezed up, somehow.

Anyone ever hear about this kind of thing happening?

How worried about his new camburg axle should he be? (is that going to need to be torn down and inspected as well?).

He's kind of worried, because if the rear end is toast as well as the driveline, transmission, and pehaps the atlas- then he's just writing the truck off and plans to buy a raptor.

Thanks-

or maybe didnt have the tq fully seated. he should have been able to look at the atlas site and see if there was fluid

What is the TQ?
