Last summer I purchased a non running GX470 to replace one of my kiddo's vehicles. It's a 2003 GX470 non-KDSS with approximately 240,000 miles. The fan bracket bearing had failed and shot ball bearings into the timing belt. The belt jumped and the bracket failure destroyed almost everything connected to it. This was a violent failure. We towed it home and a buddy jumped into to help replace the damage. Its a good running 2UZ.
Repair Items – AISIN, Denso, and OEM – First round after broken fan bracket bearing
These items all combined have improved MPG.
1) Transmission Fluid - reduced slipping and hunting between 4th and 5th
2) Panhard Correction Kit - reduced rear end wiggle when driving over overpasses the dips in the road. Allows a more consistent speed.
3) Rear stabilizer 24mm bar with extended Apache end links to allow smooth cornering without having to tap the brakes in corners.
4) Apache rear end links for the lifted suspension. Allows better cornering with less braking action.
5) New front passenger side wheel bearing with CV axle. Reduced drag from old bearing and less pull on the interstate.
6) New Denso O2 sensors. Gives it a little extra pep around town with less throttle on the highway to maintain a constant speed.
7) Changed brake fluid and bled the brakes. Brakes were spongy. Required more braking earlier in stops due to a feeling the brakes weren’t really working well,
8) New synthetic diff fluid.
9) Switched from a K and N air filter to a conventional paper element. The K and N was not a good match for dusty off-roading. Dry paper with a strong frame allows me to shake it out while I’m on the trail.
10) Oil and Filter – Mobil One
11) Greased U-Joints and Slip Yoke
