New at bodywork. Just trying to straighten out some trail damage on my
40. Rear fender is pretty caved in, near the top of the wheel well it's pushed in an inch or
so and near the bottom I have a pretty severe bulge.
Where do I start?

Wow that is quite boogered. there is a think called a slapper which you can make out of an old leaf spring but I've found that it isn't really helpful on Cruiser metal as its a little think. I would probably start by trying to get something behind it to support like maybe cutting a pice of 3/4 in plywood to fit and then take a rubber mallet and get the lower piece back into shape. For the upper part I would get a picece of 1/4 plate and bang it from the inside out.

I knew I could count on you!
45 minutes with a hammer and big block of
steel and I've got it close enough to meet my high
standards!
You in the new house yet?

I was gonna say the correct tool looks to be laying on the ground in the pix....
