PTO winch on 79+ FJ40's?

I didn't realize the pillow block changed. I do know the radiator mount on the 79 is not lined up with the hole in the front crossmember. The radiator mount has the ears to mount the pillow box. Not sure with the CAT on the 79+ FJ40s in the US market if the exhaust will be in the way of the PTO winch drive shaft. I know Toyota was no longer importing FJ40s the PTO winch in 79. I'm sure it can be done, just not a direct bolt on like earlier years. The floor mat still shows the location for the PTO shifter but these mats were installed in cruisers that were in markets that still got the PTO.

Makes sense. The FJ55 was set up that way. Was the control lever supported by a bracket the was bolted to the frame? I've seen pictures showing it that way. Like so many other things Toyota USA decided we didn't need a PTO winches in the late eighties.

I thought it was funny my 79 still the ears on the radiator bracket even though it didn't line up with hole in the cross member. :meh:

My 1979 has the in-neutral-out control lever pivoted off a "bolt sort-of-thing" that's threaded into a female thread in my gearbox casting.

But then it's not an ex-factory winch installation so :meh:.

At least a couple of years (81-82?) had the cable type that bolts to the tunnel. But the cables did not seem to fare so well so I think they returned to the pivot that bolts to the tranny as in earlier years.
