Seems like a "No Duh" but people still need reminding/just plain don't know. From the article it looks like the whole hitch failed, maybe not just the hitch ball. Hopefully someone will see this that may not know already. Maybe it was laziness or a lack of knowledge. It would not be fun to be the "good samaritan" in this situation.
